Who should you travel with for your next international trip?

My friend Tanya travels alone because she doesn’t want anyone to ruin her international trips. She has been to every continent on the planet as she truly loves traveling the world. She says she might consider traveling with other people in the future, but she definitely wouldn’t travel with three types of people: people whom she doesn’t enjoy talking with, people who likes complaining and her ex-boyfriends.

I travel with my family twice a year.

My family and I cherish our time together very much, so we travel together twice a year. We have visited Europe, Australia, Asia and South America. Our favorite place is Italy where people are relaxed and fun. Indeed, the Italian culture is fascinating: their food is delicious; their fashion is world-class; their lifestyle is inspiring.

When we were in Italy, we thoroughly enjoyed the Italian cuisine because we had Italian food for breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day. Pasta and pizza in Italy are so much better than what we had elsewhere in the world.

What’s more, Italian fashion is pioneering. While we were in Italy, we met some designers from all over the world who were looking for inspiration in Italy – they went to fashion shows to see what’s popular right now. The current trend oftentimes starts in Italy.

I used to be a fashionista because I was fascinated by the joy that was derived from beautiful clothes, shoes, bags and jewelry. However, nowadays I’ve changed my mindset and the way I approach these things: I’ve realized that although these things look pretty, they are not as meaningful as books, movies and music because books, movies and music nurture my mind, whereas fashion only improves my mood.

I travel in order to meet new people.

Sometimes I travel overseas in order to meet new people. For instance, when I went to New Zealand alone, I joined a group in New Zealand. We visited many places of interest together and really enjoyed the international trip. One person in that group taught me many things about her work, which inspired me in a tremendous way. These days a lot of the projects that I do are based on the inspiration that she gave me. She changed my life to some degree.

In 2017 I went to Japan for a conference and an international trip. Though I considered having my own room in the hotel, I decided to share a room with someone from the conference. Although sharing a room with someone isn’t easy, it’s very worthwhile: That person showed me a completely new way to look at this world because she changed my mindset about work fundamentally – If I love my work, my work doesn’t necessarily love me back as I was overworking for such a long time – I should have more rest and strike a balance.
