Travel tips: Why you don’t need perfection

Some people are looking for the perfect trip. Before they take a trip, they expect the trip to be perfect. But in reality, perfection doesn’t exist, so it’s literally a joke. Actually, you don’t even need perfection because when an experience is all about positives and doesn’t have any negative at all, the positives become less meaningful. In other words, negatives make positives much more meaningful, memorable and valuable.

  • Make plans in advance, but allow unexpected things to happen because not everything can be planned.

You can have the most comprehensive plan. However, there are many things that probably can’t be planned because life is unpredictable, not to mention an overseas trip.

Usually, I make plans regarding the following aspects:

  1. I book a very cozy hotel in the most convenient location.
  2. I do my research online to find out which restaurants are the best near that hotel.
  3. Instead of being on the road all the time, I actually live in that city for some time, thereby getting a relatively profound understanding of the lifestyle there.

Yet when it comes to shopping, I don’t make any plans. I let the trip unfold in front of me in this regard. I give myself the permission to buy a few things that I need during the trip, but they don’t have to be perfect.

Travel tips for the excited tourists: Know what’s in your control & make peace with the rest. 😊

  • The beauty of imperfection:

If you are looking for the best travel tips, I’d like to give you an example here.

When I was in Melbourne for a trip, one day I was about to go to a well-known shopping mall to buy some nice clothes. But on my way to that shopping mall, the weather changed – it started to rain suddenly. As a result, I couldn’t walk there anymore and had to stop at a bookstore nearby. Because the rain didn’t stop on that day, I didn’t even go to that fashionable shopping mall.

At the bookstore, I found a book called The Laws of Human Nature (written by American author Robert Greene) which changed my life forever. Because the topic is very captivating, I bought that book and read it very carefully while taking lots of notes – I learned a lot from the world’s No. 1 realist Robert Greene who even influenced my writing style and communication style.

Clearly, when destiny closes a door, it opens a window.
