One-day Krakow Itinerary: What To See

Hello and welcome to our Simply Travel YouTube channel. My name is Karina and I’m a travel adviser here.

If you are going to spend one day in Krakow, we have an idea of how you can spend it. This one-day Krakow itinerary is composed for those who want to maximise their time and fit as much in as possible for one day.

Exploring Krakow in just one day can be super exciting! It is one of the most visited cities in Poland, and for good reason. The Old Town area is lovely and one of the most charming in all of Europe. This itinerary offers a snapshot of the city’s best bits, from cool historical sites to charming streets. Whether you’re into history, art, or just soaking in the city’s atmosphere, this plan has something for everyone.

Getting To Krakow

Getting to Krakow is pretty straightforward. You can hop on a direct flight from many European cities, making it convenient for travellers. Alternatively, trains and buses also connect Krakow to nearby cities and countries, offering budget-friendly options for those on a tight schedule. Most visitors reach Krakow by plane by arriving at Kraków John Paul II International Airport. It’s pretty easy to grab a cab.

You can also arrange for an airport transfer ahead of time to avoid the headache if you are a traveller who prefers to have things booked before you go. Our Simply Travel team can easily help you organise a transfer to any destination.

Visit Rynek Glowny, Krakow’s Central Square

A visit to Rynek Glowny, Krakow’s central square, is a must for any traveller. Here, you’ll find a bustling hub of activity surrounded by historical landmarks and charming cafes. The area is quite large and is said to be one of the largest old town squares in Europe. Beautiful brick buildings, churches, bars and restaurants surround the square. Take a leisurely stroll around the square, admiring the stunning architecture and vibrant atmosphere.

During the holidays, you can expect the square to be extra festive. I was fortunate enough to coincidentally spend one day in Krakow during Christmastime. The Main Square was busy and energetic, with vendors selling delicious Polish meals, handcrafted items and local specialities. Don’t forget to snap some photos of the iconic Cloth Hall and the impressive St. Mary’s Basilica while you’re there!

Wawel Castle

Towering over Wawel Hill, Wawel Royal Castle is one of the most beautiful constructions in the world and an iconic symbol of Poland. Wawel Royal Castle is extremely big and has numerous points of interest. These are some of the most important: Wawel Cathedral, John Paul II Cathedral Museum, Royal Palace, and Wawel Royal Castle.

Wawel Royal Castle is one of the top highlights in Kraków and is a definite must-see. The Castle is beautifully preserved and holds various interesting exhibits, even though numerous other historic buildings were demolished to establish a new barrack during the nineteenth century. The number of visits is limited per day to safeguard the castle. Therefore, all admission tickets have an exact entry hour. In my opinion, the best time to go is just before closing hour.

St. Joseph’s Church

It is a historic Catholic church in the Podgórze district of Kraków, Poland. I know most people view and think St. Mary’s Basilica on Rynek Główny ( Main Market Square ) in the Old Town (Stare Miasto) is the most beautiful church in Krakow, and rightly so. Such a beautiful place of worship, but in my opinion, over in the Podgorze District of Krakow stands the Church of St. Joseph, one of the most beautiful churches I’ve ever seen. Standing on Plac Podgorski and dominating the square, this church is stunning. The Church of St. Joseph is a Roman Catholic church, an amazing piece of architecture that certainly catches the eye. If you’re in the Podgorze District, it’s a church I highly recommend you visit.

Is One Day In Krakow Enough Time?

This question comes up a lot and my answer is similar when it comes to most cities. Sure, you could spend more time in Krakow. But you can also see a lot of Krakow in one day. Krakow is a city that I find to be easy to manage. Most of what travellers set out to see in the city is accessible by foot from one stop to the next. Overall, Krakow is a walkable city.

For those with limited time, a day in Krakow can offer a taste of its rich cultural heritage and vibrant atmosphere. While one day may not be enough to explore every corner of this historic city, it’s certainly possible to see its highlights and soak in its charm. By planning your itinerary carefully and prioritising must-see attractions, you can make the most of your time in Krakow and create lasting memories. Whether you’re drawn to its mediaeval architecture, fascinating museums, or bustling markets, Krakow promises a day filled with discovery and adventure.
