Several years ago, I was watching an informercial on TV which was selling a training program about mindset and investing.
In that TV informercial, the salesperson was literally saying, “Stop buying dumb jewelry and start investing in your education.”
For a very long time, I thought he was absolutely right because education has opened so many doors for me – it’s definitely the gateway leading to a wide variety of opportunities.
For instance, because of my education, I became a university professor, a published author, a freelance writer and an online business owner.
Yet if everything in this world has to be something educational, it’s a bit dull and boring, isn’t it? Also, why can’t we define ‘education’ differently with an open mind?
Now as I see it, education isn’t just about going to school, reading books or studying a training program.
As a matter of fact, a lot of experiences can be education. Even stuff can be education. Let me explain.
I have had some really good jewelry which has brought unimaginable opportunities to me. For example, more than one decade ago, I met my partner while I was traveling. At that time, I was wearing a pair of pink Swarovski chandelier earrings. A guy approached me and commented on my very feminine earrings. We fell in love and have been together for 14 years. My partner and I met each other when we were traveling in Austria where I bought my Swarovski earrings. Before our wedding, we have decided to visit Austria again so we can savor, explore and experience those wonderful memories one more time.
Of course, we went to see the world of Swarovski. No, our story isn’t Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Instead, our story is brunch at Swarovski’s. We slept in and bought hot chocolate as well as pastry while standing outside the biggest Swarovski store in Austria on a sunny Sunday morning, waiting for the store to open its door.
