Nowadays many men are inspired by Tim Ferriss’s concept of ‘mini-retirement’: instead of looking forward to retirement at the age of 65, Tim Ferriss takes a few trips each year & every trip is his mini-retirement – he doesn’t check his email or phone during each mini-retirement as he fully enjoys every single trip. In this blog article, I’m going to share some unconventional vacation ideas with you.
The beauty of staycation:
Please don’t get me wrong. I’m surely not saying you’d better stay at home for a vacation. I mean you can think outside the box: Staycation could be amazing if you don’t fly anywhere; instead, you just do some stimulating activities within day trip distance of your home, so this trip doesn’t require overnight accommodation elsewhere.
For example, earlier this year, I had two weeks of annual leave. Rather than flying somewhere, I stayed at home. During those two weeks, I did many fun activities: I went to a chocolate factory near my place for an interesting visit. I learned a lot about how high-quality chocolate is made and bought some very nice chocolates! Also, I went to a karaoke bar for a party with my friends. I sang several songs that truly entertained my friends at the karaoke bar. (When I was younger, I was a professional entertainer, so I’m good at singing and dancing.) I also went to the movies almost every night during my annual leave. It was absolutely Fun with a capital F.
Last year, my staycation was one week. At that time, I went to a town nearby and enjoyed some delicious local food there. Then I went to see a fashion stylist who gave me some eye-opening fashion advice. After that, I went shopping to upgrade my wardrobe.
I hope my experiences can give you some creative vacation ideas.

Solo travel is the new adventure travel.
In 2016, I told my mom that I was going to Europe. My mom’s first question was, “Do you have anyone to go there with you?”
I was very surprised – I couldn’t understand why she even wanted to ask that question because I didn’t plan to go to Europe with anyone. My original plan was to travel alone because solo travel gives me more freedom to do whatever I want.
Yes, I went to Europe by myself and the trip was absolutely fantastic. Interestingly, that was exactly how I met my partner – both of us were solo travelers in Europe, so we fell in love. Now we are happily engaged.
