Traveling internationally twice a year: Why I travel in April and October

As I’m currently based in Australia, I adjust my clock twice a year – Daylight Saving Time starts in April; Standard Time starts in October.

In fact, I travel internationally in April and in October because I like changing my environment while adjusting my clock. Indeed, it’s a good way to evaluate what happened in the previous six months and make plans for the next six months during my holidays.

  • Traveling internationally helps me maintain an upbeat mindset.

At least 50% of the population tend to interpret situations in a negative way. For example, when you are sitting in a coffeehouse and someone looks at you for two seconds, what’s happening in your mind? How do you explain what happened?

Some people become self-conscious because somebody looks at them for two seconds.

Some people think… “Maybe I’m a good-looking person.”

How would you interpret what happened in this situation?

That happened to me when I was sitting in a coffeehouse in Europe. Because I was traveling internationally, I was in a very good mood. Therefore, I was thinking… “Perhaps that person really likes what I’m wearing today.”

Indeed, when I’m a tourist, I usually have a more optimistic mindset and I’m more curious. I’m also more likely to start conversations with people that I meet in the street, in the café, etc. I ask for directions, suggestions, and so on.

That’s the power of the tourist’s mindset – I’m not even introverted when I’m a tourist! Clearly, my trips have helped me to improve my social skills.

  • Focus on what you have.

Sometimes I visit developing countries which make me realize how lucky I am.

Hence, I’ve stopped complaining about what I don’t have, e.g., I’m not tall enough; I’m not slim enough…. As a matter of fact, none of these things actually matters.

I highly encourage you to focus on what you have and celebrate what you’ve got. If you are single, please appreciate the freedom that you have right now. If you are in a relationship, please thoroughly enjoy the love that you share with your partner. If you have children, please spend more quality time with them and be grateful for what destiny has given you.

With this attitude towards life, you’ll be a very happy person.

What do you learn when you travel internationally?
