Top questions about travelling to Ukraine

My name is Ekaterina, and I am a travel advisor at Simply Travel International. As interest in travelling to Ukraine grows, we’ve been overwhelmed with inquiries about the actual feasibility and safety of travelling to this captivating country.

One of the most common queries we have received is about the current reachability and safety of Ukraine. Thankfully, I’m here today to address all these concerns and shed light on the most popular routes for you. We’re happy to show you that it’s not only possible to journey to Ukraine, but it can also be very comfortable and fun.

The Ukrainian borders are indeed open and eagerly welcoming tourists from across the world.

Before starting to plan your trip, the first thing we advise you to do is check the latest travel advisories and a list of necessary travel documents for entering Ukraine at the respective embassy or consulate.

Taking into account the current situation in Ukraine, we, as any other travel agencies, local people, authorities, etc., are not able to comment on how safe it is to come to Ukraine, nor can we give any safety guarantees. Travellers need to stay informed while spending time in Ukraine and exercise caution.

Ways of travelling to Ukraine

The closest international airport to the Ukrainian state border is Warsaw International Airport.

This means that you can take a flight to Warsaw or any other airport in Poland, there are plenty of them in Poland, and you can choose the most convenient connections.

When you are already in Poland, there are quite a few options to get to Ukraine: by train from Przemyśl railway station, by bus, or by individual transfer.

Please be aware that it may take time to pass the Polish and Ukrainian customs. The length of the process depends on the queue in customs. It is difficult to predict how long you will have to spend on customs. Passing the border by train is usually quicker than by bus or by car.

Recent experiences from travellers on their trip from Kyiv to Tenerife and back.

We started our trip in Kyiv. We took a train from Kyiv to Przemyśl; the journey by road takes approximately 9 hours. A train is quite comfortable as well. You can either choose an intercity or a compartment train where you can relax on your way from Kyiv to Przemyśl.

After we arrived in Przemyśl, we passed the border control and purchased the train ticket to Katowice. Without leaving the train station, we went to Katowice, which took 3 hours and 30 minutes. On arrival at the train station in Katowice, we bought a bus ticket to Katowice Airport.

We spent one night at a hotel in Katowice before our flight to Tenerife, which was planned for the next morning. Finally, after the last stage of our route—the flight from Katowice to Tenerife—we reached our destination.

The journey takes approximately two days, and accurate planning is important to make your trip successful.
