Currently, I’m having an overseas holiday while writing this blog article. Yes, I don’t stop working completely when I’m on holiday because writing is actually my meditation rather than my day job. In fact, my day job gives me 4 weeks of annual leave every year, so I’m using my annual leave now!
- How to strike a balance:
When I was stressed out because of a breakup, I went to see a therapist who told me that I was actually working on my mindset too much – as a matter of fact, I should have done more somatic work, i.e., dancing, tapping, breathwork, massage, facial, manicure and pedicure. Indeed, somatic work treats the symptoms of stress – this is very valuable as well. (Working on my mindset treats the root cause of stress. Both aspects are important.)
At that time, I hired a life coach to help me improve my life. My coach literally told me that I spent too much time reading books and learning new ideas. She says, “Make sure that you are also living your life. Reading shouldn’t dominate your life; it’s just a part of life. Be sure to go out for coffee with your friends. Go to karaoke on weekends. Prepare for your birthday party!”
These are two typical examples of striking a balance. Now I’ve realized that work-life balance is paramount, too. As a result, I’m enjoying an overseas holiday after working so hard for such a long time.

- How moderation works at different stages of life:
When I was in my 20s and early 30s, I was wearing high heels all the time. After seeing a podiatrist in 2021, I decided to wear comfortable shoes only, because I had enough high heels.
What’s more, I wore a lot of makeup every day when I was younger because I was an entertainer. Now I don’t really wear makeup anymore – I only wear tinted lip balm when it’s absolutely necessary.
I bought lots of clothes, shoes, bags and jewelry before I turned 40 years of age, so now I’ve stopped buying all of those – I have enough things to wear.
In addition, I bought a large number of books previously. Nowadays it’s time to borrow books from the library.
I certainly went out for dinner too frequently in the past. Now I cook at home most of the time.
Of course, there are things that I didn’t do enough when I was younger. For example, I was sitting at my desk all the time when I was a student and when I had an office job. These days I’ve changed my lifestyle by going to the gym at least 5 times a week.
By the way, the hotel that I’m staying at right now has a gym, so I’m going to the gym in 10 minutes for some really good workout! That’s right – I don’t give up physical exercise even when I’m enjoying my overseas holiday. Consistency is key.
“I believe balance and moderation.”
