An Elegant Lady’s Ultimate Guide to Traveling In Style

As I have worked in the fashion industry for almost a decade, my audience has asked me to write a blog post on how to travel in style for ladies who are sophisticated, elegant and creative. Today I’d like to share with you several key tips that will help you become a stylish traveller.

⦁ If you are a minimalist…

As a minimalist, you prefer everything that is streamlined. You have simplified your life by keeping a capsule wardrobe that only has some essential items that you need.

Theresa is a minimalist who has a highly effective capsule wardrobe that consists of the following items:

  • Two shirts (with buttons);
  • Two tops (AKA blouses without buttons);
  • One sweater;
  • Five pairs of pants;
  • Two dresses;
  • Three jackets;

She has 2 pairs of boots, 1 pair of fashion shoes and 1 pair of sneakers. Of course, she has a big T-shirt that she wears when she is at home.

In terms of accessories, she has 2 jewellery boxes full of various necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets and anklets. These were accumulated over many years.

Every year Theresa goes overseas for a holiday. She only has a carry-on suitcase and a handbag. Although Theresa doesn’t have a lot of clothes, every item that she has is a high-quality piece. Previously, she bought lots of things from Kmart and Target, but those didn’t last for a long time; consequently, the cost per wear was way too high. Therefore, she decided to buy good clothes only but buy less in total.

Theresa is a minimalist in almost every way. When it comes to makeup, she only wears a tinted moisturizer and a lip balm. Simple and pretty.

If you are a maximalist…

Some elegant ladies are maximalists! Indeed, more is more!

A maximalist can often present an unexpected look with some funky elements. For example, Claudia is a maximalist whose hero is Iris Apfel!

Here is how Claudia travels in style: Though she is a maximalist, it doesn’t mean her luggage is huge. It does mean everything she wears is maximized. For example, every outfit is colourful with artistic print; she wears chandelier earrings and a statement necklace; her lipstick is the perfect red.

If you are both…

Some people have asked me whether I’m a minimalist or a maximalist. My answer is I’m both because I have a capsule wardrobe that consists of colourful items and statement accessories. In other words, I don’t have many things, but each item is magnificent. I know how to make a small but effective closet work. For example, I’m the only person that I know who is able to wear red and green at the same time: The best way to combine red with green is to make sure that the colours are dark red and dark green.

In addition, the proportion of each other has to be right – a big part of the outfit has to be one colour; only a small percentage of the outfit is the other colour, e.g., I wear a dark red dress with a pair of olive green shoes – this is strikingly stunning because of the contrast (and no one has the courage to wear red and green at the same time).

Another key idea is to wear pink and bone at the same time. In fact, pink has a cool undertone. (Most people assume that pink has a warm undertone. However, pink is derived from red, but actually, pink is a combination of red and white. Sometimes, there is more white than red in pink, so pink generally has a cool undertone. That’s why 9 times out of 10, pink has a cool undertone.) Bone is a modern colour that has a cool undertone as well. Hence, whenever I wear a pink outfit, my shoes’ colour is bone. When I travel, I always travel in style as I have a good understanding of colour analysis.
