From 2015 to 2018, I had a very stressful, high-profile job. Basically, I didn’t have a day off for three years. No weekend. No holiday. Consequently, I suffered from reflux for years even after that job ended in June 2018. In order to deal with reflux at night, I bought an adjustable electric bed. I retired from that industry completely in 2021 during the pandemic. Although my new job in another industry is okay, my new boss has been very dramatic. Therefore, even my mom says, “You have to sit there in order to fall asleep. Your job is full of hard work, including dealing with a difficult boss. Life must be tough for you.” But things started to change when I had a very relaxing international holiday.
- Rest is productive.
Whenever I have a nap in the afternoon, my productivity becomes significantly better later in the day.
Also, if I take a 20-minute break when I’m at work, my productivity improves.
Clearly, rest is actually productive.
Earlier this year, I had a 2-week international holiday. During those two weeks, I was trying exotic food, visiting places of interest and reading eye-opening books. That holiday gave me so many new ideas and some very refreshing inspiration that has changed the way I approach life and work.
Towards the end of my holiday, I received an email from my employer who told me that my dramatic & difficult boss left the organization already. Maybe the stars were aligned.
- What happened after the international holiday:
Because I tried some really delicious cuisine during my holiday, I started to cook more exotic food at home with the help of recipes that I found in the library.
Yes, now I eat more because I cook at home more often these days. Interestingly, 90% of the reflux has disappeared. It turns out that the reflux was caused by stress as well as not eating enough & buying takeout too frequently.
Though I still have the adjustable electric bed, I don’t have to adjust it anymore. I simply eat a healthy diet which is a highly effective solution.
Life has become so much easier when my adjustable electric bed is only for massage while I’m reading a good book in bed.
Truthfully, my job seems like a totally different job without the dramatic boss nowadays. In conclusion, who you work with is just as important as what you do.
