I traveled the world with my mentor when I was 30 years old. I asked her how she became so successful in her career. As a remarkable woman, she told me something extraordinary, “When I started my business 23 years ago, I didn’t think about making money just to buy a designer dress or pay my bills. I’ve been obsessed with helping my clients to achieve their goals – that’s why my business has been thriving.”
- Enthusiasm is the key to success.
While we were traveling the world, my mentor was always taking photos for her business’s email newsletters and making notes for ideas that she can implement in her business. I can feel her passion completely.
She is clearly not thinking about, “What’s in it for me?” She is not worried about her needs. All she wants is to help more people because she genuinely believes that her business can benefit a lot of people.
Here is the truth: My mentor is excited about most projects that she has done. Some exciting projects of hers didn’t work out in the end, but every wildly successful project is something that she is extremely excited about. Therefore, enthusiasm is her secret sauce.
As for how to choose the right idea for a business, my mentor says, “The best idea lights you up the most. The perfect idea doesn’t exist because every idea has its pros and cons. The most important thing is to take action because the faster you take action, the sooner you’ll get feedback. Then you adjust what you do and make the business better.”
- What is work/life integration?
Work/life balance is a lie because nobody can be perfectly balanced in this regard.
According to my mentor, work/life integration is a much more realistic and practical approach. Indeed, she travels the world with her laptop as she would work on her computer for a few hours each day when she is on holiday. Whenever she finds something inspiring, she would write it down immediately. Because she is very passionate about her work, running a business doesn’t feel like a slog at all. What’s more, her business is an online business, so she can do her work wherever she is.
