These days embarking on an international adventure is an exhilarating experience which is full of anticipation and excitement. Research shows that anticipation is really good for mental health because it helps us to focus on positivity. Therefore, some experts point out that it’s necessary to always plan something fun to look forward to. For example, last year I was looking forward to a trip to Europe which took place in December; this year I’m looking forward to meeting my favorite celebrity and attending his book signing in November! This habit keeps me optimistic because I know life is wonderful! Now in this article, I’ll talk about how to prepare for your next international trip which keeps you excited. 😉
Do some research into the destination
Before you start the trip, be sure to do sufficient research into your destination. Have some understanding of the local customs, culture and etiquette. Learn something about the local currency and the basic language that might help you to communicate with people there. Find out the weather conditions during your trip and any festivals or cultural events happening during your travel dates.
Check visa requirements and passport
Make sure that your passport is valid for more than half a year beyond your planned return date. Find out whether you need a visa or not and be sure to apply beforehand if that’s required. Note that certain countries may require a specific number of blank pages in your passport as well as proof of onward travel.

Health & safety preparations
Visit a travel clinic or your GP to discuss any medications recommended for your destination or necessary vaccinations. Buy travel insurance which covers trip cancellation, lost belongings and medical emergencies that travelers might need.
Write a packing list
Create a packing list according to the climate and the activities of your international adventure. Pack versatile and lightweight clothing which could be layered for various temperatures. Remember to take essential items such as chargers, travel adapters and toiletries with you. You may also pack a first aid kit for small emergencies.
Financial planning
Let your bank know your travel dates as well as destinations so as to prevent your bank cards from being flagged for unusual activity overseas. Carry a mix of cards and cash for flexibility at the destination.
“If you plan to use your mobile phone during your international adventure, you have to arrange for international roaming with your cell phone service provider. Or you may buy a local SIM card when you arrive at the destination if you prefer cheaper rates and you stay there for longer.”
