A trip to Mexico and the fascinating conversations

After living in English-speaking countries for such a long time, I’ve decided to take a trip to Mexico just to experience a very different culture. Interestingly, I have discovered that most people in Mexico are fascinating conversationalists.

  • Retailers are amazing communicators.

In English-speaking countries, retailers generally focus on the product and the service, so they don’t really talk about other things with customers.

However, in Mexico, retailers talk about many things with customers (not just the weather). Whenever I go to a shop in Mexico, retailers there are always very engaging. They have talked about music, movies and food with me extensively. My trip to Mexico is very fruitful because I bought some interesting things that I need and learned a lot in this process as well.

Part of me love this book; part of me hate this book,” says a retailer at a bookstore in Mexico.

Tell me more,” I was intrigued.

I love this book because it’s the most romantic novel I’ve ever read. I hate it because it made me stay up late at night – I just wanted to finish reading it – it’s too intoxicating.”

  • Boring and dull questions don’t require boring and dull answers.

In Mexico, I’ve asked people ‘How are you?’ (It’s a boring question.)

But a lot of people gave me longer answers. Much longer than “I’m good. How are you?”

A lady told me that she just had the best brunch in years. A guy told me that he was preparing for a job interview, so he was a bit nervous. A couple even told me that they were going to the movies for a date night (and recommended a movie for me to see).

I met a lady in a pub and asked her “What do you do?”

Guess.” She was playful.

After flirting with her for about 5 minutes, she told me that she is a psychic! She works from home because she has her own website as a fortune teller.

Then I bought her a drink and she explained what I should prepare for this year. I got her phone number and now we are in a very happy relationship.

“A trip to Mexico has expanded my outlook tremendously because I didn’t know meeting new people can be such wonderful experiences.”
